Who We AreThe LCMS Foundation is The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s primary organization that provides Lutheran donors with charitable expertise and opportunities to ensure that families are provided for and beloved ministries are supported. The LCMS Foundation was begun in 1958 by a dedicated group of Lutherans who said that this new organization would, "be a vehicle which can, and under the blessing of God will, usher in a completely new era for our church." It serves our Lord and our Church in several ways. First, by providing trained men and women who help individuals like you find ways to practice Biblical, Christ-centered stewardship. In today's world, deciding what ministries to support and how to bless your family through all God has given you can be a complicated process. This work is done through these Gift Planning Counselors throughout the United States who spend their time Linking Christians With Giving Opportunities ®. Secondly, the LCMS Foundation serves by managing financial instruments and the gifts they represent, entrusted to it by congregations, organizations and people like you. The staff of the LCMS Foundation is ready to work with you personally or your congregation or ministry treasurer to develop endowments and/or custodial accounts. As St. Paul tells us in his letter to Timothy: Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. (1 Timothy 6:17-19, NIV) Since that awe-filled beginning, thousands of inspired stewards, joyful in their thanks to God...people like you...have used the Foundation to plan and then manage gifts that benefit their families, congregations and ministries worldwide! As of fiscal year 2007 which ended June 30, 2007, the Foundation has more than $829 million of assets. During that fiscal year, the Foundation generated more than $76 million in new funds for 663 LCMS ministries—the largest total and largest number of ministries receiving gifts in Foundation history. These funds were the result of either direct gifts or distributions from matured gifts, such as trusts, endowments, gift annuities, pooled funds and bequests. See The LCMS Foundation Annual Ministry Report for fiscal year 2007. NOTE: It is a beautiful PDF file, but it is a large file (1.87 MB). It will take a moment to download, but it is worth the time. Our vision is to see a church where Christians demonstrate their love for Christ and His church, exercising their stewardship responsibilities by managing life and all life's resources to fulfill God's purposes, linked with and supporting the mission and ministry of The Lutheran ChurchMissouri Synod and its associated organizations. We rejoice in the partnership we have in this vision and the wonderful blessing God has given His church.
